All it took was this one tiny, hilarious and oh-so-honest confession: She hides from her kids.
In an essay penned for InStyle magazine, Kate, who has sons Ryder, 12, and Bingham, 4, admits that she has some less than stellar mom moments.
“Some days I feel like I should win best mom of the day award," she writes, "and some days I find myself doing strange things that don’t have any real purpose, in faraway corners in my house, and I realize I am literally and deliberately hiding from my children…"
That's not the only mom "fail" Kate cops to. The 35-year-old Pretty Happy author says that helping her kids do their homework is one of her least favorite things to do.
“I help my kids with their homework. But I also get bored doing it,” she says. “I will sit and listen to my children pontificate and discuss their ideas till the day is long because it warms my heart, but I really don’t want to do math! I’m gonna say it: I’d prefer to watch ‘The Bachelor’ rather than do fraction and divisions.”
I love Kate's confession about "hiding" from her kids, because, come on: We've all been there, right?
I first realized that I was deliberately hiding from my daughter back when she was just a baby. She'd be sitting on the living room floor distracted by a stack or blocks (or, more likely, a rolling ball of dog hair) and I would be so grateful for the unexpected few minutes of undisturbed peace that I would basically army roll past the doorway and into the kitchen so she wouldn't catch sight of me. Because, of course, the minute she caught sight of me, it was over.
Kate Hudson and I cannot be alone in this. Who else has hidden from their kids?
