Chrissy Teigen under fire for leaving her baby so soon

Welcome to motherhood, Chrissy Teigen!

It's only been 10 days since Chrissy and her husband John Legend welcomed their daughter Luna, but it seems the congratulatory messages are already giving way to criticism.

So what is the model mom's first parenting sin? She left her baby.

Not forever, of course. Just to go to dinner. But that's enough to make some accuse her of having her priorities all wrong.

"I went to dinner. People are pissed. Good morning!" Chrissy Tweeted today, quoting some of the more hostile comments she's received since being spotted at The Nice Guy restaurant in West Hollywood with her husband on Saturday evening.

"They talk all of that sh** about not being able to wait until the baby arrives, and then a week after she does, they're 'out'..." reads one remark.

"She's hitting the streets already???? Damn these so called celebrities want to show off so bad after giving birth. Spend bonding time with your baby an not let the nanny or babysitter raise them!" advises another.

There are many, many more.

Some moms may have stayed quiet and waited for the storm to pass. Not Chrissy Teigen, though. True to form, she took to Twitter to call out her critics.

Fortunately, some other mamas have stepped to Chrissy's defense this morning, pointing out that it's entirely up to her to decide when she's ready to take a few hours away from her new baby.

"Welcome to the world of moms," wrote one. "Where you are openly judged instead of being supported and uplifted."

There are no doubt some pretty big perks to being a celebrity, but living life under a microscope and having everyone feel they have the right and responsibility to weigh in on your every move? That must get exhausting.

I saw the photos of John and Chrissy out on their dinner date over the weekend and I must admit that little Luna didn't even cross my mind.

Thinking back, my daughter was probably around the same age when my mom pushed me out the door saying, "Go for a walk, go see a movie, just get out of the house. We'll be fine!"

They were just fine, of course, and a couple of hours away from my baby did me good, too. I'd guess that Chrissy feels the very same way - and I'd also guess that she and John spent most of their time talking about their little girl!

Their celebrity status obviously invites extra scrutiny, but I think we do have a tendency to be pretty tough on moms sometimes. With such high expectations to live up to, it's no wonder that a lot of us succumb to "mommy guilt" far too often.

Here's hoping Chrissy and John enjoyed their evening out, and that they manage to tune out the critics.

Do you remember the first time you left your baby?

These famous moms have been judged for their parenting decisions, too:
