Hilary Duff's "semi cute outfit" for the school run divides fans

I have to imagine that when Hilary Duff broached the subject of what one wears to pickup their kids she didn't imagine she'd be kicking off a debate. All the same, it seems moms far and wide have plenty to say about what we wear on the school run.

"Hey moms! I came up wth a semi cute outfit for school drop off," the actress, who is mom to 4-year-old son Luca Comrie, recently posted on Instagram with an image of herself in a long coat, running shoes and shorts...fairly tiny shorts.

She continued, "I usually roll in sweat pants or lulu lemons and look like a disaster but this morning I managed to throw something cute together and I thought would share. Cut offs or jeans. A light weight trench over a sweater or tee, cross body bag sneaks or booties and a pair of Sunnies! Now you try! Tag me in your photo...(annnnd you don't have to wear such a serious face haha)"

It turns out not everyone is loving Hilary Duff's choice of attire.

"Um sweetie you have no pants on," one commenter wrote. "I vote sweatpants," another added. A third person chimed in by writing, "I would be humiliated if my mum showed up to pick me up in booty shorts. Those look like freaking underwear."

There are some who approved of Hilary's style, however.

"You could make wearing a paper bag look good," one fan commented. A second added, "I think you look great! Who cares what other people think! [What's] important is what you think and 2 the others are just jealous that they couldn't pull off your look! Love you girl!!"

But perhaps the comment I resonated with most of all is one that reads: "Wear whatever you want!!"

I'm not usually a fan of excessive punctuation, but sometimes when people get their garments all in a twist it does seem a bit necessary to get the point across.

I (as someone who freely admits she couldn't "pull off" the look herself...though that's more of a nod to chafing than that I think certain styles are only for certain-size people), think Hilary looks great. Maybe if she didn't have the coat on my eyebrows would have raised a wee bit at the size of her shorts, but as it stands I don't see anything to get riled up about.

Some days I show up to grab my kids in attire that could pass as professional, but for the most part I'm in workout clothes or worse. We've been remodeling and painting like crazy lately, and I rarely see the point in changing clothes to grab the kids just to go back to what I was doing before. I usually look like whatever is happening in my life in that moment, and I guess I just don't see any reason to pretend otherwise.

What do you think of Hilary Duff's outfit and post? Do you feel others notice what you wear on the school run?
