16 celebrities who've welcomed rainbow babies

Up until a few months ago I had never heard of a "rainbow baby," and the first time I finally did come across the term I had no idea what it meant. Obviously it indicated something and someone special, but the reasons why were lost on me.

In case you haven't yet heard, a rainbow baby is "a baby born after a loss of a previous child."

That can mean miscarriage, stillbirth or other loss. There are number of quotes floating about that further explain the meaning behind the term. One sweet saying I came across reads:

It is understood that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravages of any storm. When a rainbow appears, it does not mean that the storm never happened or that we are not still dealing with the aftermath. It means that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds. Storm clouds may still hover, but the rainbow provides a counterbalance of color, energy and hope.

Isn't the symbolism fitting? Although I'm not the parent of a rainbow baby myself, I get emotional just thinking about it all and thinking of my friends and family who've been through loss.

As someone who's written about celebrities and their tots for years, I've had the pleasure and pain of sympathetically hearing about losses even the rich and famous face, as well as their baby joys. Here, we take a look at those who've gone on to welcome rainbow babies:
