Jaime King knows Taylor Swift is a big time celebrity, but wants to make it clear that isn't the reason she's chosen the singer to be her second child's godmother.

“You know it doesn’t matter where you come from or who you are or what you do,” the body-positive mom recently explained to People. "For me, choosing a godparent is a very sacred experience.”

“I was having my doctor check-up the other night and [Taylor] came to visit and the baby was kicking for her,” the Hart of Dixie actress went on to say. “It was so exciting and fun and sweet. She’s just fantastic.”

On a more serious note, Jaime King went on to say of her best friend:

“It wasn’t because of it was this person and the name, it was really because of her morals and her values and the way that treats people and how hard-working she is and her family and how close she is to them. I see what she gives out there to her fans and to her family and that’s the kind of person I want to be the guide and the spiritual protector of my child.”

Isn't that sweet? In a world where there worst moments of stars' lives are what most often make the headlines, I have to say I really enjoy hearing about positive friendships and good deeds.

My husband and I took the more practical, less emotional approach to picking godparents, choosing guardians for our children in case we should both pass. It was a tremendously tough decision, and though I was very close with a couple of female friends at the time we ended up going with family members. In the long run, there was just something about the tradition of being with family I couldn't let go of in favor of choosing a friend.

Interestingly, from what I know of most of our friends and relatives haven't yet chosen for their children. Seems to me there's either a lot of not wanting to face the possibility going on, or they picked and it wasn't us and they just don't want to say!

When you hear people talking about godparents what kind of responsibilities do you assume they mean? Guiding the child, possibly becoming the guardian, or both?
