posted in CelebritiesEva Mendes is opting out of being celebrated this year for Mother's Day despite being mom to 7-month-old Esmerelda Gosling.
“There is no plan [for me],” the actress and love of Ryan Gosling told Access Hollywood Live. She went on to explain, "I kind of feel like I haven’t quite earned my stripes yet in a way.”
There will be a celebration with family, but the focus is on someone else.
“This Mother’s Day is definitely all about my mom,” she went on to explain sweetly. "She’s had a really hard year. My brother’s sick so it’s all about my mom, honoring her. We’re all going to go over to her house and bombard her with love.”
Now you can't argue Eva Mendes' heart isn't in the right place with going out of her way to celebrate her mom, but I'm not so sure about her reasoning for not taking part in the holiday herself. Where did this idea you have to taking a certain degree of licking in order to be worthy of a little extra admiration from your kids and partner come from?
I'll admit I'm not so sure about celebrating Mother's Day while you're still expecting your first child (I was still in my first trimester when the holiday rolled around all those years ago), but I wouldn't think it odd if someone decided it was fun to get a little extra bit of pampering while pregnant. If you've got an actually baby of any age in your arms? Then by all means, you're a mom and this is your day!
Over the years I have thought it funny to be celebrated myself as a mom and then have to fit in also celebrating my own mother at the same time, but that change in dynamic is such a milestone. I'm sure Eva's mom would be more than happy to share being honored with her daughter.
Pregnancy, first year or later on: When were you first celebrated on Mother's Day?
