posted in CelebritiesRumors are swirling Jon Gosselin is taking his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, to court in a bid to get primary custody of just one of their children. The father of eight hasn't yet directly commented on the speculation he's attempting to have 11-year-old Hannah live with him, but other sources have plenty to say.
A source told E! News, "Jon is filing for custody because Hannah has expressed she is unhappy and uncomfortable in the house with Kate Gosselin."
"In a perfect world, Jon would take all the kids, but he's not in a position to," the insider added. "For now, he's at least trying to help Hannah. Out of all the children, she's the one voicing her discomfort."
"So far, Jon has been tight-lipped about this because he's not seeking media attention. It's just about helping his daughter."
Jon Gosselin's lawyer said somewhat vaguely, "Jon's priority is what is best for the kids," adding he will "fight for them." He did not comment directly on the latest rumors. A rep for Kate declined to comment entirely.
However, in 2014 Jon had plenty to say about his concerns with how Kate parents:
"I want temporary primary custody until Kate goes on a psychiatric evaluation," he told E! News, claiming that his ex-wife allegedly "instills fear" and "controls" their kids.
"She uses them as her props," he also told In Touch. "It's a problem for her that she can't afford our old lifestyle anymore. It's so unfair to them. I work really hard to keep my kids safe and then she just goes and tweets about them all the time. I don't have a Twitter anymore and even when I did, I never tweeted about my kids. I kept their lives private."
In a way, I find his silence on the current matter makes me more inclined to believe the reports are true. If they are, I don't envy the judge who has to decide what should happen next.
Not only do I imagine it's incredibly difficult to decide how parents who are angry and bitter ought to raise a child in the first place, it seems things must only be more complicated when the kids get older. Tweens and teens are notorious for going through phases of frustrations with their parents, and trying to sort out the truth of what's really going on versus what each party involved is saying sounds like a nightmare.
Among my circle of friends I've seen a few in Hannah's age range decide they wanted to go and live with their other parent, but in each case move back to their original primary parent within a year. Every case is different, of course, but from what I've seen tweens often find out the grass isn't greener on the other side.
Still, in Hannah's case specifically, I'm surprised to hear she's interested in not only leaving her six younger siblings, but her twin sister.
What do you make of the reports Jon's fighting for custody of Hannah?
