posted in CelebritiesIman Shumpert had to get a little resourceful when his baby girl decided to make her way into the world in a hurry. The NBA star and first-time dad, ended up using headphones to tie off his daughter's umbilical cord when his fiancée, Teyana Taylor, gave birth in their bathroom.
The actress and songwriter shared details of their little girl's wild arrival by posting a photo of newborn Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. to Instagram. Along with the image she wrote:
"On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world. She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone! Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head...it took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr and she entered this world into his bare hands!"
"Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator @imanshumpert tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord and the ambulance made [their] grand entrance 5 min later. She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried! He handed her to me wrapped in our bath towel and wiped her face for me to see what LOVE really is.
She has blown Christmas away! Our family is complete. Her blueprint will be unmatched. Welcome Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. Mommy carried you. Daddy delivered you. #MeetTheParents we love you baby girl."
If you're curious about the part where Teyana mentioned not realizing she was in labor until she felt her daughter's head, it may help to know their baby wasn't due to arrive until mid-January.
How's that for a wild birth story? Congratulations to the new parents, and here's hoping parenthood is a smooth ride after such an eventful start!
In comparison to what Iman and Teyana experienced my sons' arrivals are pretty tame, but I do have two unique bits that I can always share. The first is that with both of my pregnancies my water broke hours before I had any real contractions, which told me baby time had finally arrived but that there wasn't much need to rush about. I even had time to finish some grocery shopping and do a little cleaning before heading up off to the hospital!
The second part is a little less fun to recall, however. With our firstborn I had an epidural put in three times.
The first worked fine initially, but then the line moved. A few confusing hours of increasing pain later a second one was put in, but the line was blocked. A third one was eventually done, but it never worked as well as the first had.
