posted in CelebritiesBusy Philipps has come to the realization that while there are perks to having a five-year age gap between kids there are also some drawbacks.
“I thought that my children were going to share a bedroom and it turns out that they’re too far apart in age,” the actress, who is mom to daughters Birdie and Cricket, recently told People.
She went on to explain, “It’s just a disaster because the baby goes to bed so early and so, we’ve had this crazy makeshift thing going on in our house for the past year-and-a-half.”
There's hope for the future though, as they undergo a remodel and room shuffle.
"Now, we’re doing an addition — we’re going to build a new bedroom — and Birdie has declared that she gets the new bedroom," Busy Philipps explained. "Which, I get it, you’re the older sister, but I’m going to have to get all new stuff."
My own two boys, who are just 20 months apart in age, have shared a room on and off over the years. After our second son was born we had them separated, but around the time he moved out of the crib I purposely put them in the same room. They're brothers, and even though we had the space I wanted them to have the experience of sharing.
When we moved for the first time with two children in tow our house had a large, weird second floor. Technically it was only one room, so they continued sharing, but because of a partial wall they couldn't even see (read: throw stuff at) one another. One more move later got us to our current house, and they were back in a single tiny room in bunkbeds. That was a long, hot summer of perhaps a little too much closeness while part of the basement was remodeled into an actual bedroom for our eldest.
Since then they've been apart and I have to say I think, at least with them being 9 and 10 right now, that's how I prefer it -- and yet we're putting them back together again. There's some changes coming our family's way which mean that for a few months we're going to be sharing our home with our in-laws. To do that, the eldest is going to be moving back upstairs and into his brother's room. No one is particularly happy about this, but hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!
This shall be the summer of the bedroom shuffle for us. Everybody grab your pillow and go with the flow.
What's the bedroom situation like at your house? Is it working?
