posted in CelebritiesIt's a major milestone moment, but admittedly not one that most of us parents have to worry about. For the royal family, though, it's a pretty big deal.
Princess Charlotte made her first ever - and first of many - appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony this week, joining the rest of the royals as they celebrated the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. Under the watchful eye of their parents Kate and William, the 13-month-old and her big brother George, 2, stole the show at Trooping the Colour parade and military fly-by, an annual tradition that dates back to the 17th century.
Little Charlotte was dressed in pink from head-to-toe for the occasion, while her great-grandmother, the guest of honor, opted for a surprisingly eye-popping shade of neon green. And doesn't the Duchess of Cambridge look particularly stunning? If I ever had an excuse to wear a giant, fancy hat, Kate's flower-adorned Philip Treacy number is the one I would choose. It's gorgeous.
Fashion aside, the Duchess looked to have her hands full with her two little ones as they took in the festivities from their perch on the balcony. Charlotte seemed a bit overwhelmed by the noise as the planes roared by, one hand covering her ear as she squirmed against her mom.
The ceremony was nothing new for Prince George, as he made his own balcony debut at last year's Trooping the Colour parade. This time around the little Prince looked dapper in his cute collared shirt and matching shorts, and while he seemed quite taken by the sight of the military aircraft overhead, he too grew a bit fidgety by the end of the ceremony. As any parent knows too well, preschoolers aren't exactly known for their long attention spans!
Talk about parenting pressure! I always got nervous when I had to take my little kids to big events, hoping they wouldn't dissolve into a meltdown at exactly the wrong moment. I can only imagine those nerves would be far worse if there were thousands of people watching us - not to mention the Queen of England! Fortunately, Kate and William seem very accustomed to all of the attention.
