posted in CelebritiesIf your name is Amber, Crystal or Jessica you might want to take a gander at Holly Madison's latest interview. The former girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, who is raising daughter Rainbow Aurora with husband Pasquale Rotella, has plenty to say about her daughter's name and more.
When asked about the criticism she received for choosing the name Rainbow, the 35-year-old told Yahoo Parenting, "Oh, yeah. I got flooded with stupid commentary on social media."
"It’s definitely a unique name. I like unique names and I wouldn’t have picked it if were common. But, growing up, there was a girl in my class named Rainbow. I grew up in Oregon, where a lot of hippies went to start families. There was a girl at school named Rainbow, and I was so jealous and I wanted it to be my name. So it’s definitely unusual, but it’s a name.
It’s not like I called her Coffee Table. People love to say, 'That’s a stripper name.' But I’ve spent a lot of time in Vegas and strippers aren’t named Rainbow. They’re named Amber, Crystal and Jessica."
When asked if she'd approve of Rainbow someday following in her Playboy bunny footsteps Holly Madison explained, "I would not be OK with it. When she is an adult, she will be able to do what she wants, but from day one I’ve tried to raise her to know she has value, her body parts have value, and she doesn’t have to do something cheap or tawdry to get attention. If she wanted to do — and God forbid she did — I would tell her my whole experience with it and I’d be honest that it wasn’t what I thought it would be."
That sounds fair, right? However, I'm less sure I agree with this mom's idea of what is a "stripper" name.
To start with, I cringe even imagining that's a thing. Are there really names that have that bad of a reputation? I've known a number of Ambers, Crystals and Jessicas over the years and it never once occurred to me their parents picked names that would be scrutinized for sounding stripper-ish.
Is it possible Holly meant those are the real names of girls who strip and then they choose more out-there monikers to go by? It's my understanding more unusual names are favored by strippers (Safari, Kitty, Candy, etc.) than traditional ones. This isn't my are of expertise, however. Heck, I've never even been to Vegas or an actual strip club, so I can't claim to truly be in the know.
Do you think there's such a thing as a "stripper" name? Which, if any, fall into that category? Weigh in by leaving a comment below!
