Seinfeld: Dad life is "the greatest pain in the a-- in the world”

It wasn’t long ago when Jenny Seinfeld confessed that his kids’ bedtime routines were ridiculous. Now the comedian is saying, "Being a dad is the greatest pain in the a-- in the world.”

The legendary comedian hosted a fatherhood luncheon in Los Angeles to benefit Good+ Foundation, which was founded by his wife Jessica Seinfeld. The 61-year-old father of three spoke about parenting with other Hollywood dads and how it’s changed his life.

He said that becoming a dad affects the way men see themselves as well as how they view the world. Seinfeld also spoke about how his role as a father has shaped him.

"If kids think dad is cool, something has gone terribly wrong," he told The Hollywood Reporter, "Being a dad is the greatest pain in the a-- in the world you could possibly be involved in. That is the ultimate dad-ness, full dad-ness."

"When he makes that connection and has that kid in his life, his whole perspective and mindset and life force is remolded. You have a different perspective on your daily existence and what it's about," he added.

I personally see nothing wrong with kids thinking their dad is cool. If ask my kids what they think about their dad now, they’ll probably say he’s pretty cool. However, it will be interesting to see how they feel as they get older.

My husband doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to daddy duties. Our kids are only two and 5-years-old and he’s already laid down the law regarding sleepovers and dating. I think my daughter will be 21 by the time he gives the green light. As for our son, he doesn’t seem likely to loosen the straps that much.

In fact, we just had a conversation the other day about our kids studying abroad (as I did back in college). When asked if he’d allow it, he says he’d probably be tagging along. If you ask me, our kids probably won’t think he as cool as they do now.

I can certainly understand my husband’s concern. The world as we know is constantly changing. As Seinfeld says, being a dad is a pain in the butt and the same rings true for being a mom.

With parenting comes a huge responsibility. We are our children’s biggest advocate and we have to do our best to protect them. Even though some things are beyond our control, we do our best to control the things we can.

It's also nice to know that we can have a nice belly laugh through all the ups and downs of parenting. Sometimes that's the only way to get through it all.

What do you think of Jerry Seinfeld's take on being a dad?
