posted in CelebritiesThe survey once again says Miley Cyrus is the worst female celebrity role model out there. The Daily Mail reports 2,287 British parents, all of whom have at least one child under the age of 10, were asked who they'd hate for their child to idolize, and the results are in.
When given a list of names the parents marked which stars they found worrisome, and the totals add up to show an overall disapproval rate. Take a look at how the females fared:
Miley Cyrus -- 78%
Nicki Minja -- 54%
Kim Kardashian -- 43%
Kristen Stewart -- 36%
Rihanna -- 34%
A drum roll, please, for the men:
Kanye West -- 56%
Justin Beiber -- 55%
Zayn Malik -- 41%
Shia LaBeouf -- 38%
(Do you think that means the duo known as Kimye, with their powers combined, are 99% evil?)
Chris Johnson, who conducted the survey at vouchercloud, commented on the results by saying, "It's no surprise that parents are worried about celebrity influence on their children, particularly when you look at the likes of Miley Cyrus. She started out as the perfect teen idol in Hannah Montana and then when she reached a certain age, she decided to rid herself of the clean-teen image."
This is true, there's no doubt about it.
Still, I had begun to warm up to Ms. Miley as of late. I'm intrigued by her extreme free-thinking and impressed with her ability to carry on as though social norms and what's thought of as acceptable for a star just don't apply.
Then again, I'm certain things are only going to get crazier from here on out with Miley Cyrus hosting the fast-approaching MTV VMA's. (I can practically see the Parents Television Council sharpening their pitchforks.) It's started already, really, with the 22-year-old back on the press circuit drumming up attention for the big show.
Take a look at her revealing recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live:
Along with much discussion about her inclination to go topless, Miley pointed out, "Humans aren’t afraid of the human breast. It’s the nipple that’s the issue...Like, I’m showing my boobs and no one has a problem, but the nipples are covered, so somehow that’s OK. So America’s actually fine with tits. It’s nipples they don’t like."
And here I am again thinking she's right -- I know for a fact a number of our pro-breastfeeding readers agree -- but the parts she is spot-on about are going to get buried underneath all the antics. I digress.
The good news is there are a few stars out there parents wouldn't mind if their children look up to. Taking top honors for the females is Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, while for the men Ed Sheeran is thought of most positively.
