There's a One Direction baby on the way! And if you listen very closely, you just might hear the sound of millions of hearts breaking.

PEOPLE shared the big news this evening, reporting that 23-year-old Louis Tomlinson is expecting a baby with LA stylist Briana Jungwirth.

Though the pregnancy wasn't planned, the 1D star, who split from his longtime girlfriend Eleanor Calder earlier this year, is said to be looking forward to becoming a dad.

“Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer,” says a friend of the pair, adding, “They are both really happy and although they aren’t in a relationship, their friendship is extremely strong and they are both really excited about the baby. It’s early days and Briana and the baby’s health are the most important things right now.”

Reaction to the news came quick, with "Directioners" taking to Twitter to express disbelief and utter heartbreak using the trending hashtag #OhNoLouis. It's safe to say there are sleepless nights ahead for a lot of One Direction fans.

Personally, I'll just offer up my sincere congratulations to Louis and Briana. Baby news is always happy news, and they'll no doubt love their little Tomlinson or Tomlindaughter (sorry, stole that one from Twitter) on the way.

I empathize with all those 1D fans out there, though. Their public angst is an easy target for ridicule, but I still have vivid memories of my utterly devoted boy band - New Kids on the Block, in my case - days.

I very clearly recall a conversation I had with my best friend when we were about 14 years old: If our favorite NKOTB member were to pick us out of the concert crowd, if he were to fall in love with us back stage, if he were to ask us to go on tour with him... what would we do?

To be clear, it wasn't a hypothetical. It wasn't, "Can you imagine if...." It was more along the lines of, "Where can I find a grade 9 tutor who is willing to teach out of the back of a tour bus?"

So to the dad (and mom) to be: Congratulations. And to everyone nursing a breaking heart, I can only say: I get it.

Who was your teenage music crush?

Will Louis be joining the list of hands-on Hollywood dads?
