posted in CelebritiesDavid Letterman's nights as a talk show host have come to an end with a bang. At age 68 the star of The Late Show With David Letterman has said goodbye, and there was no shortage of celebrities on hand to send him of in Tinseltown fashion.
Check out last night's edition of "Top 10 Things I've Always Wanted to Say to David Letterman:"
As part of the big sendoff David Letterman had some emotional moments, including when he spoke about his family.
"I want to thank my family: my wife, Regina and my son Harry," he said, referring to the duo he's pictured with below in a snap from 2007. "Thank you. Just seriously, thank you for being my family."
He added, "I love you both and really nothing else matters, does it?"
Just recently I came across a 2012 interview of Letterman's that caught my attention. Reflecting on his career the talk show host admitted he regrets not having children until his mid-50s. An excerpt from the Daily Mail:
Letterman admitted he would have had more earlier had he not been "so gosh darn single-minded" about his career on television.
"When your focus is that tight," explained the fiercely private funnyman, who was honored by the Kennedy Center earlier this month. "You miss a lot of what's going on around you. I just thought, 'I can't do both.' I was wrong about that. I have a little boy now. I wish I had a little girl [too]."
I'm in nearly the opposite position of Dave, having started my family at age 23. For a long time I was adamant that I was happy with having made the choice to have kids fairly early, but as I've aged and they have too my stance has softened some. I can't go so far as to say I regret being a young parent, because there are perks to it, but I feel much more aware now that they whole think is tricky.
It just seems like there's no real right time to start a family, as there are pros and cons to waiting and jumping in with both feet. I feel for Dave in hearing he has regrets about not having more, but smile at hearing him speak so sincerely about the love he has for his little family.
How do you feel about the age at which you had children?
