Liv Tyler's surprise pregnancy: "It's the nuttiest thing"

After a 10-year gap between welcoming her first and second child, Liv Tyler is shocked to find herself pregnant with baby three.

"I didn't know I was going to have two babies in two years. It's the nuttiest thing that could have ever happened to me," the actress recently told Britain's Metro newspaper with a laugh. Her son Milo, born during her marriage to Royston Langdon, is now 11, while her son Sailor with David Gardner just celebrated his first birthday this month.

Despite having just announced her third pregnancy in January, Milo and Sailor's little brother or sister was causing a few hiccups on set even in 2015.

"I made a movie last year where I was playing a cop," the 38-year-old beauty went on to share. "It was hilarious because I found out I was pregnant and had the big belt and the gun and walkie-talkie and it was getting tighter and tighter as I tried to hide it."

Naturally, the back-to-back pregnancies mean Liv Tyler has spent more time expecting in the last tow years than not.

"I’m very tired, that’s the only thing," she recently told E! News. "But, I’m happy, it feels good. I feel like I’ve been pregnant forever. I always wanted to have a big family. I’m very excited."

"Every day I'm like, ‘Oh my, God!' But then I stop and take a deep breath and just focus on gratitude and how grateful I am for all the opportunities that I have. I always say this little mantra to myself that the Universe only gives you what you can handle, so then I say thank you for giving me so much because I can handle it."

"Motherhood brings a sense of calm. Having a baby and growing a baby is probably the most challenging thing that you will ever do," she also told Metro. "Then when I go to work I feel much more free in away. It's definitely changed me."

Though Liv Tyler's 2016 due date hasn't been announced, it sounds like she'll officially become the mom of three sooner rather than later. As someone who was once also the mom of two under 2, I say welcome to the club! It's hectic, but fun.

I can't go so far as to say there weren't times having my sons so close together was challenging (the only thing harder than dealing with one child having a major meltdown is a when they're going simultaneously (or even consecutively)), but there are also some wonderful advantages. All their lives my kids have mostly been into the same activities, going to the same schools, and able to share the same friends. Sometimes I think they might be together a little too much, but we certainly aren't all over the place because they've got different things going on.

That being said, it's also been really quite sweet to see my new niece and 9-year-old nephew interact. Though it wouldn't be my preference to have my kids so far apart, I can see how nice it is he goes to school and has his own independence part of the day.

Things will certainly be interesting for Liv, as she'll have one foot in the large age gap camp, and the other with two under 2. Not everyone gets to experience both arrangements!

If fate and fertility took requests, how far apart would you choose to have kids? Is it crazier to you to have them very close together or many years apart?
