Is Gisele Bundchen's family diet too extreme for you?

Gisele Bundchen's personal chef, Allen Campbell, has spilled the beans on how the supermodel, her husband Tom Brady and their children choose to eat -- and it's quite different than how a lot of us go about getting our grub on.

“Eighty percent of what they eat is vegetables and whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, millet, beans. [I buy] the freshest vegetables. If it’s not organic, I don’t use it,” Allen told Boston.com. “The other 20 percent is lean meats: grass-fed organic steak, duck every now and then, and chicken. As for fish, I mostly cook wild salmon.”

However, there are certain vegetables the football star won’t eat at all.

“[Tom] doesn’t eat nightshades, because they’re not anti-inflammatory,” the chef went on to explain. “So no tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, or eggplants. Tomatoes trickle in every now and then, but just maybe once a month.”

Not going to lie...I've never even heard of nightshades before! There's a longer list of of what's included in this plant family, but that isn't all the Bundchen-Brady household avoids. The chef also doesn't use white sugar, white flour, MSG, caffeine, fungus or dairy.

“It’s very different than a traditional American diet, but if you just eat sugar and carbs – which a lot of people do – your body is so acidic, and that causes disease,” he went on to explain. “Sugar is the death of people.”

Allen went on to share that the couple's kids also have fruit in their diet but "90 percent of the time they all eat the same thing."

In light of the chef's interview, Gisele Bundchen is getting a fair amount of flack from commenters who are rolling their eyes and suggesting this model mom may just be out Goop-ing even Gwyneth Paltrow. Perhaps it's just a coincidence of timing, but I'm not all that put off by what's been outlined here.

Early in December I decided on a whim to try vegetarianism, and just a few days ago I passed the one-month mark without even a small cheat. I've been quite surprised by not only how well I'm feeling but also how easy it's been. As of the beginning of the year I've also cut out milk, most cheeses and anything with added sugar. I don't know that I'm aiming to go full vegan or anything, but I feel darn good and so I'm rolling with it for now.

Compared to Gisele I've still got flour, caffeine...and nightshades (love me some tomatoes and peppers), but she's still eating meat. I suppose it wasn't all that long ago I would have said there's no way I'd be able to abide by such a strict diet, but now I sort of get it. Once you're used to it it's easy to keep going if you feel good -- and heck, if a chef is preparing it all for you what's not to love?

What do you make of the Bundchen-Brady family's diet? How does your family eat?
