The wait is over!

Earlier this week new parents Jessa (Duggar) Seewald and her husband Ben Seewald admitted that they were struggling to find the perfect name for their baby boy. Now, one week after his birth, they've finally settled on one. On the off chance you had a baby name pool going, it's unlikely this very unusual moniker made it on the list.

The big announcement came in a video that Jessa and Ben posted on their family web site: "We are very excited to introduce our little baby boy to the world," the 23-year-old mom says as she cuddles her newborn. "His nickname has been Quincy since we first found out we were pregnant, and we've been working on deciding on a name and we finally figured it out."

"So, his name is Spurgeon Elliot Seewald," reveals Ben, going on to explain, "Charles Spurgeon was a preacher that lived back in the 19th century, and he had a big impact on our lives. His writings and his sermons and books are still around today and continue to impact many, many people."

The middle name Elliot, he adds, is in honor of late missionaries Jim and Elisabeth Elliot.

"He's a precious little bundle of joy, and we're so blessed to call him ours," concludes Jessa.

They'll also be calling him Quincy, as it turns out. Asked whether the boy will go by Spurgeon or Elliot, the new mom replied, "Both, but everybody still calls him Quincy!"

The name Spurgeon, which enjoyed some tepid popularity through to the early 20th century, currently sits way down at #5809 on BabyCenter's baby name ranking for the year. We'll have to wait and see if Jessa and Ben's stamp of approval leads its revival. Looking at the early response to their announcement, though, it seems unlikely.

"I have a pretty broad tolerance/appreciation for unique names... but this is just BAD," writes a BabyCenter mom in one of the may discussions on the big name announcement. "I like Elliot a lot, but Spurgeon?"

I have to agree. I like that the name was inspired by someone who is important to them, but Spurgeon is a tough one. I'd probably have gone with the preacher's first name, Charles, instead.
