posted in CelebritiesIt's hard not to occasionally wonder what it's like living like Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, or one of their six gorgeous children. From the outside, they appear to be a globe-trotting troupe that flits between saving the world and sampling the best it has to offer -- but what about a proper education?
Three former Jolie-Pitt nannies have reportedly spilled the beans about the inner workings of this world-famous family, and according to them school looks a whole lot different than we're used to. A few excerpts from one of Star magazine's recent articles:
“Brad and Angie are very unconventional parents, to say the least,” one nanny said. "It’s like they’re living in a hippie commune most of the time, because Angie doesn’t believe in rules. She thinks it’s important for their children to have freedom of expression, but that doesn’t always work out well."
"She lets the kids learn what they want and ignore the stuff that doesn’t interest them," dished the source. "And they don’t take tests or do homework." Adds a nanny, "Let’s face it, none of those kids will ever be going after low-level jobs, so it’s not like they need a formal education the way other kids would."
"The kids are allowed to browse the Net as much as they like, and the older ones use social media, though their security team monitors it for their own safety," the source revealed. "They’ve even seen some of their parents’ R-rated movies, like Fight Club and Inglourious Basterds—and Mr. & Mrs. Smith! It was weird for them to see their parents acting sexy onscreen in that, but they loved it."
Maddox, 14, Pax, 11, Zahara, 10, Shiloh, 9, and 7-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne are said to have previously attended a French-language school with campuses all over the world, at which they could continue their work while traveling, but now are homeschooled by a team of international teachers.
According to Star, the kids exist in an elite world of "security guards and nannies and nothing that other kids have: no friends, no school, no rules."
Personally, I just can't muster much outrage over Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's supposed lifestyle. I might be a bit concerned if an average parent were attempting to be so lax about education, but it says right here these kids have an entire team of teachers! No tests and no homework don't concern me one bit, and as a matter of fact I think a growing number of people are beginning to question that approach.
The note about the kids having "no friends" is slightly more unsettling to me, but to be honest my own two boys only just recently started really making friends. Up until now (ages 11 and 9) they pretty much just hung out with each other. We did occasional playdates and whatnot, but nothing consistent. I'm willing to bet that's how it is for the younger ones of the clan, and Maddox at least probably stays in touch with kids from their previous school.
