Jerry Seinfeld & son's lemonade stand shut down by police

Jerry Seinfeld's kids are learning the hard way not all great ideas are green-lighted by the law. After a neighbor called to complain about his 12-year-old's lemonade stand, Jessica Seinfeld, who is Jerry's wife and mother of their three kids, vented about the incident online.

Posting a photo to Instagram which shows Jerry, their son Julian and some neighbor friends posed with their hands behind their heads in an arrest-ready pose, the frustrated mom wrote, "Lemonade dreams crushed by local neighbor but not before raising lots of money for @loverecycled. Thanks to all of our customers and big tippers! thanks Xander and Jaden for crushing it today with Julian and Jerry."

Neither the lemonade or the fundraising appears to have been the real issue irking the neighbor. Police confirmed to The East Hampton Press they received a complaint about illegally parked vehicles near the stand and had to put a stop to it because the Seinfelds were violating a village code that prohibits "peddling."

Now the illegal parking I can almost understand being a hazard, but peddling? In our experience, there isn't much about a stationary lemonade stand that describes someone trying "to sell (something, especially small goods) by going from house to house or place to place," as the definition of the word describes.

It's too bad, because my kids have had a blast selling lemonade over the years. We've had a stand once or twice every summer, and not only are they thrilled to make a little money, the people stopping by are all smiles. The first time we did one I met more of our neighbors in two hours than I had in the 10 months prior that we'd lived there.

It's impressive to see little kids go into business mode, planning a list of supplies, shopping, setting up and making each transaction. It's an incredible learning experience, and they're so proud to be doing it!

Still, even I've become aware the little stands are starting to be scrutinized. This summer I told my sons they couldn't go one street over, where there's substantially more cars going by, because it's also directly across from the fire station. I knew they would get a lot more business, but I just wasn't ready to deal with the police who are always nearby possibly deciding to shut them down.

My boys are getting older, so I doubt we have many more summers of stands in our future, but I hope they don't become a thing of the past entirely.

Surprise! Meet Lucy Liu's precious new baby

Lucy Liu is a mom!

The 46-year-old Elementary star surprised fans yesterday when she shared a photo of her new baby boy on Twitter, writing, “Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. In [love]!”

The adorable black and white shot shows Lucy staring lovingly at newborn Rockwell, who is wrapped in a blanket in her arms. (See the gorgeous pic here!)

A rep for the beautiful actress confirmed the happy news as well, saying, "I can confirm that Lucy Liu is the proud mother of Rockwell Lloyd Liu, brought into the world via gestational carrier. Mom and baby are healthy and happy.”

Lucy - who is reportedly now single, having been most recently linked to hedge fund billionaire Noam Gottesman - revealed in a 2012 interview that she had hopes of becoming a mother one day.

"I love the idea of having a child," she said at the time. "It's probably the most magical thing you can do for yourself. It's a matter of making space for that in your life and your heart. I think there's something wonderful about seeing people grow through their children. Because you have to stop thinking about yourself."

Congratulations to Lucy on her adorable new addition!

Is this how you'd rank the worst celebrity role models?

by

Sara McGinnis

The survey once again says Miley Cyrus is the worst female celebrity role model out there. The Daily Mail reports 2,287 British parents, all of whom have at least one child under the age of 10, were asked who they'd hate for their child to idolize, and the results are in.

When given a list of names the parents marked which stars they found worrisome, and the totals add up to show an overall disapproval rate. Take a look at how the females fared:

Miley Cyrus -- 78%
Nicki Minja -- 54%
Kim Kardashian -- 43%
Kristen Stewart -- 36%
Rihanna -- 34%

Miley Cyrus parents

A drum roll, please, for the men:

Kanye West -- 56%
Justin Beiber -- 55%
Zayn Malik -- 41%
Shia LaBeouf -- 38%

(Do you think that means the duo known as Kimye, with their powers combined, are 99% evil?)

Chris Johnson, who conducted the survey at vouchercloud, commented on the results by saying, "It's no surprise that parents are worried about celebrity influence on their children, particularly when you look at the likes of Miley Cyrus. She started out as the perfect teen idol in Hannah Montana and then when she reached a certain age, she decided to rid herself of the clean-teen image."

This is true, there's no doubt about it.

Still, I had begun to warm up to Ms. Miley as of late. I'm intrigued by her extreme free-thinking and impressed with her ability to carry on as though social norms and what's thought of as acceptable for a star just don't apply.

Then again, I'm certain things are only going to get crazier from here on out with Miley Cyrus hosting the fast-approaching MTV VMA's. (I can practically see the Parents Television Council sharpening their pitchforks.) It's started already, really, with the 22-year-old back on the press circuit drumming up attention for the big show.

Take a look at her revealing recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

Along with much discussion about her inclination to go topless, Miley pointed out, "Humans aren’t afraid of the human breast. It’s the nipple that’s the issue...Like, I’m showing my boobs and no one has a problem, but the nipples are covered, so somehow that’s OK. So America’s actually fine with tits. It’s nipples they don’t like."

And here I am again thinking she's right -- I know for a fact a number of our pro-breastfeeding readers agree -- but the parts she is spot-on about are going to get buried underneath all the antics. I digress.

The good news is there are a few stars out there parents wouldn't mind if their children look up to. Taking top honors for the females is Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, while for the men Ed Sheeran is thought of most positively.

Kim Kardashian shows off weirdest pregnancy symptom yet

Your belly will get big, your hair will get gorgeous, you'll have to pee at least three times a night. These are the pregnancy symptoms that we all know, the ones that everyone tells you as soon as you announce that you're expecting.

It doesn't take too long to realize, though, that you'll experience countless other side effects during those long 9 months.

With baby #2 on the way, Kim Kardashian took to Instagram this week to share her weirdest symptom yet: Pregnancy lips!

pregnant Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian turned heads while out on August 24

The reality star posted - of course - a selfie showing her puffy, swollen lips. While some followers assumed she'd had some sort of fillers or injection, Kim attributes the change to her pregnancy.

(See the photo here!)

Some are still skeptical, but according to one US Weekly expert, Kim's new look really could be due to the fact that she's expecting.

"During pregnancy, hormones can cause fluid retention, which leads to increased swelling. This can occur in different parts of the body, including the face. It's a common occurrence."

Kim's not the only mom-to-be getting a beauty boost from her pregnancy. Jessica Simpson Tweeted a photo of her puffy pout when she was expecting her first baby, writing, “Woke up looking like the lip injection fairy visited me in the night! Is this how pregnancy face begins?! Yikes!”

Several BabyCenter mamas revealed that their also appeared fuller while expecting: "My lips have been like that almost my whole pregnancy! It looks like I had them 'done,'" wrote one. "Cracks me up sometimes in the mirror. I thought it was really weird until I read in a book about how pregnant women often have celeb-style puffy lips."

There were definitely a few side effects of pregnancy that caught me off guard - like the fact that my already huge feet grew another half size, or the vivid, often bizarre dreams that accompanied my third trimester. And let's just say that that hair growth everyone talks about isn't just restricted to your head!

Josh Duggar enters treatment as one mom's message goes viral

by

Sara McGinnis

posted in Celebrities

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have broken their silence on the subject of their eldest son, Josh Duggar. On Wednesday, the parents formerly featured on 19 Kids and Counting posted a message in response to his admission of using the site Ashley Madison to cheat on his wife, Anna Duggar, who is the mother of their four children.

"As parents we are so deeply grieved by our son’s decisions and actions," the Duggars' message reads in part. "His wrong choices have deeply hurt his precious wife and children and have negatively affected so many others. He has also brought great insult to the values and faith we hold dear."

Their post continues:

"Yesterday Josh checked himself into a long-term treatment center. For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery. We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change. In the meantime, we will be offering our love, care and devoted support to Anna and our grandchildren as she also receives counsel and help for her own heart and future."

Michelle and Jim Bob concluded their statement by writing, " During this time we continue to look to God—He is our rock and comfort. We ask for your continued prayers for our entire family."

Josh Duggar treatment

In the days leading up to the Duggar family speaking out about Josh leaving for treatment another mom's message about his infidelity has gone viral.

Jessica Kirkland, a mother of two girls, wrote in an open post that has been shared over 250,000 times, "Let me tell you: Anna Duggar is in the worst position she could possibly be in right now. Anna Duggar was crippled by her parents by receiving no education, having no work experience (or life experience, for that matter) and then was shackled to this loser because his family was famous in their religious circle. Anna Duggar was taught that her sole purpose in life, the most meaningful thing she could do, was to be chaste and proper, a devout wife, and a mother."

Encouraging parents to teach their daughters to "breath fire," Jessica's post goes on to say:

"As a mother of daughters, [Anna's situation] makes me ill. Parents, WE MUST DO BETTER BY OUR DAUGHTERS. Boys, men, are born with power. Girls have to command it for themselves. They aren't given it. They assume it and take it. But you have to teach them to do it, that they can do it. We HAVE to teach our daughters that they are not beholden to men like this... Please, instill your daughters with the resolve to make a man cower if he must. To say 'I don't deserve this, and my children don't deserve this.' I wish someone had ever, just once, told Anna she was capable of this. That she knew she is. As for my girls, I'll raise them to think they breathe fire."

Like Jessica, when I heard about Josh Duggar's affairs my thoughts quickly turned to Anna. For all the reason Jessica shared I feel for her, and additionally the fact she is mere weeks postpartum weighs heavy on my mind. Josh and Anna's fourth child, a daughter named Meredith, was just born in mid-July.

I fervently hope the counseling Anna is to receive is balanced in nature, as I too have heard the rumors she will be encouraged to shoulder some of the blame and responsibility for Josh's actions. That being said, I can't help but feel it's up to each couple in their specific situation to decide if divorce is the correct route to go. Yes, my knee-jerk reaction is she should dump him and move on, but I've seen other couples go through marital trauma and come out the other side strong, their families intact.

Is the 'three kid curse' to blame for Hollywood splits?

by

Carolyn Robertson

posted in Celebrities

Hearts are breaking in Hollywood these days.

First there was Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, who announced their break-up in June, after 10 years of marriage. Shortly after that came the sad news that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale's 13-year marriage was kaput.

Now, celebrity splits are nothing new, but until recently it seemed that these high profile couples had somehow found the secret to making love last. They'd weathered the inevitable storms, survived the ups and downs of marriage and parenting together. They were solid. Or so it seemed. So what happened?

Well, there's one theory being put forth: It's the "three-kid curse."

NOW Magazine writer Julie McCaffrey , herself a mom of triplets, explains why having three children could just be the kiss of death: "One child becomes the centre of a couple’s universe. Two children create a perfect balance. But three can topple that balance and tip even the strongest couples over the edge."

Those are some pretty strong words. Let's consider the "evidence," shall we?

REX USA Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and children at the 4th of July Pacific Palisades Parade, Los Angeles, America - 04 Jul 2014

Jen and Ben were already parents to daughters Violet and Seraphina when they welcomed son Samuel in 2012. While both are clearly head over heels with their utterly adorable youngest child, the Juno star admitted that baby #3 meant a lot more work. "“We wanted a third and we had a third, and I wouldn’t trade him for anything. But, you know how two feels like six? Three just put me right over the edge," Jennifer revealed. “I was going up to anyone on the street saying, ‘Would you please come work at my house? Would you please come help me? Just take a child. Do something.'”

Gwen confessed she felt similarly overwhelmed after she and Gavin had their third son, Apollo, in 2014. Though the No Doubt rocker recently gushed that her boys are "incredible," she added, "It gets crazy. Everybody knows that 4-8 at night is like chaos. It's like the crazy time in our house. The other day we were driving home and I was thinking, 'OK Motel 6. If I can just find one and go there and disappear - disappear from my life.'"

Reality star couple Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick have also reportedly called it quits, less than a year after welcoming their third child, Reign. Admittedly, their relationship seemed a bit more volatile than the others, but they had managed to stay together for a decade. And then there's Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, who announced their pending divorce last week, after 11 years together. They've had their hands full with three boys - Noah is 2 1/2, Bodhi is 1 and Kassius, Brian's son from a previous marriage, is 13.

So, are you convinced yet? Is having three kids really that tough on a marriage?

I only have two myself, so I can't speak from personal experience. I really doubt, though, that these celebrity break-ups can be blamed on family size. After all, there are plenty of couples - yes, even famous ones - who have managed to survive and thrive after having a third child.

Whether it's one, two, three or more, having kids is tough. Parenting brings incredible joy, but it can also usher in worry, stress, exhaustion, financial strain and time pressures. All of that can certainly test a marriage. From what I've seen, though, having children can only break a relationship that was on unstable ground to begin with. A truly happy and solid union isn't likely to suddenly crack from the strain of raising kids.

What do you think of the "3 kid curse?" How has parenting affected your relationship?

Kim Zolciak "can't deal" with young son's gnarly injury

Kim Zolciak and I don't have a whole lot in common on an average day, but this morning I feel a certain kinship with the mother of six.

Take a moment to consider the following link is to a photo of a bloody gash on darling Kane's face, and click if you're ready to look.

That poor baby!

Along with the image that shows the aftermath of her 20-month-old son being injured, causing his eyebrow to split open, the reality star wrote, "Our Saturday night. #ICantDeal #ImTheOneThatNeedsTheMedsAtThisPoint #Stitches."

Kim Zolciak twins names

Kim Zolciak didn't say exactly what happened to Kane that caused his injury, but I have a pretty good guess. You see, I've been there, done that, cried those tears and felt that guilt. This right here is a look at my own son sporting the exact same injury, as well as photos of how his scar looked four years later.

Thankfully (and I'm not above knocking on wood), that eyebrow gash is the worst injury we've had to deal with so far. At this point we're a solid decade into parenting, and so far I think our luck has been pretty good. I'm still waiting for the day someone breaks an arm or an ankle and we're off to get their first cast, but I certainly won't mind at all if it never comes to pass.

Bryce Dallas Howard to star in remake of my favorite kids movie

by

Sara McGinnis

posted in Celebrities

He has the head of a camel, the neck of a crocodile and the ears of a cow -- and he's part of my favorite movie from my childhood. A movie which I just found out is getting remade.

Hooray?

I'm a little excited to hear Bryce Dallas Howard is taking on one of the leading roles in the new version of 1977's Pete's Dragon, but like any fan of something original I'm a little nervous about how the remake will turn out. I wasn't just a fan though, to be clear, I was a record soundtrack playing devotee.

All these years later I can still sing each and every lyric. Take a look:

Bryce Dallas Howard opened up about her own love of Pete's Dragon, telling People, "It was a favorite. It was playing pretty much on loop in the house growing up."

Pete's Dragon remake

The mother of two went on to say:

"This is the first movie that — because I’ve got young kids — I got the script and said, 'I want this movie to be made for my kids to worship.' "There are really profound themes in this story and I feel like some of the most important lessons I learned as a child was from the movies I watched.

"I learned about courage from The Brave Little Toaster, I learned about friendship from E.T. These were movies that were huge for me growing up and I hope that this movie could be that for my kids.'"

I'm pleased to hear she has high hopes for the film, but still worry just a little. While I am looking forward to seeing Elliot get the modern technology treatment I truly hope they don't change the songs. They're the very best part!

By the way, Sean Marshall (who played young Pete), is now 50! Think there's any chance he'll make an appearance as Lampie, Passamaquoddy's famous lighthouse keeper?

What was your favorite movie when you were a kid? Has it been remade? Do you want it to be? Join the conversation by leaving a comment below.

Hope you're having a brazzle day!

Evan Rachel Woods' unique way of describing childbirth

by

Sara McGinnis

posted in Celebrities

From "miraculous" to "horrendous," there are hundreds of ways I've heard childbirth described over the years, and yet Evan Rachel Woods has come up a descriptor unlike any other.

The actress, who welcomed a son in July of 2013 with then-husband Jamie Bell, has opened up about giving birth and her plans to add to her family to Net-A-Porter’s The Edit, and it turns out she has more kids but not another pregnancy in mind.

Evan Rachel Wood son

"I don’t want to have another baby, but my little sister is adopted, and I was hoping that one day I could do that," Evan Rachel Woods explained. "There are so many possibilities."

Still, it seems she fondly recalls her candlelit home birth.

“It was a psychedelic experience," the actress said of how her son (whose name has never been publicly revealed) came into the world. "I felt like I was hitting every corner of the room. Everything was vibrating."

That sounds a little crazy to me to characterize it that way, but then again I certainly felt my mind and body go to places they'd never been before while I was in labor. I suppose, if the mood was right, I could see how it might feel that way.

Still, it's not the first word I'd use to describe childbirth as I experienced it. Something more like "awesome" is better fitting -- but in the "causing feelings of fear and wonder" definition more than the "whoa, cool dude" variant.

Time for you to fill in the blank: "For me, giving birth was a _______ experience." Add your answer in a comment below!
