He has the head of a camel, the neck of a crocodile and the ears of a cow -- and he's part of my favorite movie from my childhood. A movie which I just found out is getting remade.

Hooray?

I'm a little excited to hear Bryce Dallas Howard is taking on one of the leading roles in the new version of 1977's Pete's Dragon, but like any fan of something original I'm a little nervous about how the remake will turn out. I wasn't just a fan though, to be clear, I was a record soundtrack playing devotee.

All these years later I can still sing each and every lyric. Take a look:

Bryce Dallas Howard opened up about her own love of Pete's Dragon, telling People, "It was a favorite. It was playing pretty much on loop in the house growing up."

Pete's Dragon remake

The mother of two went on to say:

"This is the first movie that — because I’ve got young kids — I got the script and said, 'I want this movie to be made for my kids to worship.' "There are really profound themes in this story and I feel like some of the most important lessons I learned as a child was from the movies I watched.

"I learned about courage from The Brave Little Toaster, I learned about friendship from E.T. These were movies that were huge for me growing up and I hope that this movie could be that for my kids.'"

I'm pleased to hear she has high hopes for the film, but still worry just a little. While I am looking forward to seeing Elliot get the modern technology treatment I truly hope they don't change the songs. They're the very best part!

By the way, Sean Marshall (who played young Pete), is now 50! Think there's any chance he'll make an appearance as Lampie, Passamaquoddy's famous lighthouse keeper?
