Kristin Cavallari is no stranger to getting an earful about her parenting choices, but even she didn't expect a sweet Fourth of July photo of her boys enjoying the beach would cause a stir.

After posting a shot of sons Camden and Jaxon wading with their father, quarterback Jay Cutler, the former reality star was accused of not feeding her children enough.

"Wow. I want to like this picture but for obvious reasons I cant. Please look into feeding your babies," one commenter wrote. Another shared, "I'm not hating but that little boys back does look really skinny. I have a kid and that just looks so skinny."

Kristin has been open about her diet in the past, writing in Balancing in Heels: My Journey to Health, Happiness, and Making it all Work about how she eats a diet free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). She turned to homemade goat milk formula for her children after breastfeeding, she says she's a "psycho" about reading labels, and her three children are not vaccinated.

Responding to the critics, Kristin Cavallari later wrote on Instagram, "Yep, I starve my children. Just blocked the most people I've ever blocked in my entire life. Happy 4th hahaha."

Since the retort, many fellow parents have spoken out to defend the 29-year-old. A sampling of supportive comments Kristin has received:

myliziworld: Your babies ARE perfect!!! My daugher is supper skinny and she eats a lot!!

4heartz26: People are so used to seeing obese kids that they think this looks abnormal.

iammrsfaehn: Don't let anyone shame you or your children. Sometimes kids are skinny. My daughter is 10 and doesn't even weigh 50lbs. People need to stop their finger pointing.

As much as I may disagree with some of Kristin's parenting decisions, my thoughts are right in line with these last few comments. Kids are so different, and (aside from being at risk for whooping cough and measles) I bet these boys are well cared for.

I know a few parents who have really struggled to get their kids to eat, and it is tremendously hurtful to them to have outsiders criticize them. One of these moms had a child who just wasn't hardly interested in eating, and a second child who ate everything and still didn't put on weight! Her kids are just plain small. They're perfectly fine, but strangers still sometimes whisper.

In a time where sharing your life publicly often means inviting critique, I can't say I'm surprised Kristin got a few comments, but that's not the same thing as saying I'm happy about it. I am at once someone who loves that we're having more open conversations than ever, and someone who occasionally misses the tradition of biting your tongue.

What do you make of Kristin Cavallari's photo and the ensuing discussion?
