Meet the new princess!

Just hours after welcoming their baby girl, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge introduced her to the world on the steps of St. Mary's Hospital in London this afternoon.

The couple was greeted by throngs of reporters and royal watchers as they emerged from the hospital's Lindo Wing shortly after 6pm London time, their brand new daughter wrapped in a white lace blanket as she slept sweetly in her mom's arms. It was a brief appearance, but a very welcome one judging by the cheers and cries of "congratulations" from the crowd.

The princess, whose name hasn't yet been revealed, was born this morning at 8:34am, weighing 8lbs 3oz.

Despite having given birth earlier in the day, the 33-year-old Duchess looked radiant as she smiled and greeted fans. She wore pale yellow floral dress by Jenny Packham - one of her favorite UK designers, and the same one who made the blue polka dot dress she wore after Prince George's birth.

Kensington Palace Tweeted the first photos from the appearance this afternoon, along with the cute hashtag, #WelcomeToTheFamily. See the pictures here!

Photos from London today...

Though newly minted big brother Prince George didn't join in on this first public appearance, he did make an appearance at the hospital earlier today, arriving with dad Prince William to meet his little sister for the very first time. The 21-month-old stole the spotlight as he waved to the waiting crowds, looking adorable as always in his royal blue sweater and matching knee socks. I wonder what he thinks of the new arrival?

Kate/William quote.

The arrival of the little princess has been met with joy by royal fans, and by those closer to home, as well. Grandfather Prince Charles - who made it known he had his fingers crossed for a girl - said today that he's "absolutely delighted" about the family's newest addition.

As for Prince William's younger brother Prince Harry, he doesn't seem too bothered that he's been bumped to 5th in line to the throne by his lovely new neice. When asked recently how he felt about his diminished chances of one day becoming King, Harry laughed and replied, "Great!"

The Duchess kept her hospital stay short this time around: She and William will return home to Kensington Palace this evening for the first night together as a family-of-four.
