posted in CelebritiesMarisa Miller has posed nude in cooperation with PETA to send a message about motherhood. It's not fellow human moms she's speaking out for, however, it's whales.
For the ad, which reads, "SeaWorld: Separating mothers and babies since 1970," the pregnant model mom can be seen lying nude in a small bathtub. Check out the picture for yourself here.
“I’ve always been an animal lover and I do a lot with ocean conservation," is the 36-year-old mother of 2-year-old Gavin Guess explained to People. "I always see dolphins when I surf, but I didn’t have the knowledge about how they are acquired. When Blackfish came out, I saw it and I was so upset.”
Opening up further about her mission, Marisa Miller went on to say:
“[The animals] are ripped apart from their family, they have to be drugged to handle the environment they’re in. There are other ways to experience them. There is a way that you can rehabilitate the animals in an environment that they can swim and you can go check them out.”
Our hope is that will think twice before buying tickets to SeaWorld. She added, “It’s about awareness. Once the public knows, then they can make their own choices.”
More from the beauty on how, particularly as a mom, Blackfish opened her eyes:
I'm not always one to agree with PETA and don't approve of some of their tactics, but I can't deny that watching Blackfish didn't also change my perspective on things. When my kids were little we had a membership to the zoo and we went all the time. I never thought much about it was right or wrong -- it was just a zoo, a thing that existed that you took kids to.
However, the older they've gotten however the more uncomfortable with the whole idea I've gotten. At this point I'm not actively against zoos and aquariums but deep down inside my gut says they're not right.
I did go to SeaWorld as a kid and loved the show, but I don't have any plans to ever take my own two boys. In part we won't go because we don't live anywhere near there, and in part because of that film. I would love for my kids to be able to see those magnificent whales up close (whale watching in the wild is, in my experience, not all that exciting), but not at price it costs to the animals themselves. As a mom I don't know how you can look at those animals and not feel for them.
Have you watched Blackfish? What are your thoughts on zoos and aquariums?
