Check out a sampling of what the consciously-uncoupled star had to say to Women's Health magazine for their June issue...
On being comfortable with her body: “I believe in having sex and I feel way more comfortable in a bathing suit now than I did 20 years ago!”
Her diet and exercise routine: “My routine is the same every weekday. I drop my kids at school. I do an hour of dance cardio, then I go to work. For lunch I usually have a big salad with grilled chicken, and then for dinner I’ll have whatever I want. Most nights I eat with the kids, like, a stir-fry of chicken and broccoli or pasta or roast chicken and potatoes.”
She believes in being herself: “I believe, as cheesy as it sounds, in exercise, laughing, having sex, being yourself.”
Her diet mantra: “My food philosophy is: Nothing should be ruled out. I don’t believe in saying, ‘You’re not allowed that.’ If my kids want a Shirley Temple with the radioactive cherry in it, go for it, you know?”
On romance: “If I’m in a relationship at this point in my life, it’s got to be a relationship worth sustaining, you know what I mean? I don’t have the time or inclination.”
The don't-rule-anything-out approach seems to be a change of thinking, as Gwyneth Paltrow previously opened up about her strict rules, writing in her book her kids are "left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs."
Of all the things to indulge in, the thought of maraschino cherries makes me ill. No judgement on those who like them, but my entire family is grossed out by those squishy blobs and refuses to eat them. Need I point out my kids have never had a Shirley Temple?
That aside, I'm pretty much on board with this bit of Gwyneth's advice. I do have some hard rules about foods I won't buy and keep in our house (those frozen tubes of high fructose corn syrup and artificial dye are high on the list), but if we happen to be out somewhere and my boys are offered one I wouldn't make them turn it down.
What foods, if any, do you rule out for your family?
