Why Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are "total rivals"

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter James is only a few months old, but they're "already paranoid" about how fast she's growing up.

"We turned our basement into this cool, accessible room," the new mom explained during a visit with Jimmy Fallon. She elaborated, "I said to Ryan, 'You know, we need to put in a window.' And he said, 'A window going down into the basement? That doesn't make any sense.' I said, 'It's a chastity window. You knew. You were a teenage boy. We cannot have our child—a daughter—go in the basement with a boyfriend. We need a window so that they know at all times that we are watching and they can't get away with doing anything terrible.'"

Blake Lively baby James

Blake Lively, who says she chose the name James for her daughter because it's "a family name...and I liked having a boy's name. I thought I'd pass it along," went on to talk about how she and her famous husband are competing for baby's first word.

"We're total rivals, by the way," she told Jimmy. "I hear all the time, 'da-da, da-da,' and then I walk in the room and he's like, 'ma-ma.' And I'm like, 'How dare you do that!' ... The word 'da-da' is banned in our house. You have to say ma-ma all day. And I'm like, 'How can you do that?' I'll take videos where I'm saying 'da-da,' but I don't say it ever."

"She has to say mama first!" the Age of Adaline actress added. "I do everything! He does nothing!"

Oh man, those are fightin' words!

I get it though, and not only do I recall my husband and I doing the ma-ma/da-da thing with our firstborn, I just saw friends of ours doing it this weekend. From what I remember our first baby boy did say 'Dada' first, but it was more a string of 'da-da-dad-da' then a clear pronunciation. Strangely enough, our kids ended up calling my husband 'Papa.'

Our second child? He was closer to making the 'mmm' sound, but ended up going with 'ba-ba,' as his first true communication, which meant both bottle and pacifier.

What was your baby's first word? Did they say mama or dada first?

Yep, Jessa Duggar is pregnant! Check out her special due date

Congratulatory wishes on a pregnancy are once again in order for the Duggar family, as Jessa is expecting! The big news from the even bigger 19 Kids and Counting family came Tuesday, as the new wife of Ben Seewald opened up to People about their baby joy.

"I am feeling pretty good," the 22-year-old daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar shared. "The morning sickness was different every day. It's getting better, but I'm still hanging on to the heartburn. And I don't have any super serious food cravings."

Explaining she took a pregnancy test before church one morning and then brought it to Ben, Jessa recalled, "I said, 'Hey Ben, guess what? Yeah, you're a dad.' We couldn't believe it. We are so excited. We have started talking baby names. It is one of those things that is so special, picking a name for a baby."

Ben and Jessa's baby will be Jim Bob and Michelle's sixth grandchild. Their son Josh has three children and his wife Anna is due to deliver their fourth in June, and Jill just welcomed a son named Israel. The couple previously spoke about plans to adopt, and are making it clear that's still on their to-do list.

"Our hearts haven't changed on adoption," Jessa Duggar explained. "We are still making plans."

For now Jessa and Ben are focused on her pregnancy, and counting down to baby's very special due date.

"We are so excited," she gushed. "The due date is November first, our [first] wedding anniversary."

Isn't that sweet? My firstborn son arrived on the fall, which is my favorite season, and a niece of mine was due on her grandpa's birthday. Just recently a friend of mine was given April 1 (April Fool's Day) as a due date and wasn't too happy about it -- and what do you know, her little one actually arrived on his due date!

Was your baby's due date on a special occasion?

Aw! Justin Timberlake shares sweet first photo of baby Silas

by

Proud papa alert!

Singer Justin Timberlake gave his 10 million Instagram fans and followers a treat today when he shared the first photo of his 1-week-old son. For the record, baby Silas is absolutely adorable.

The sweet shot shows the newborn cuddling with mom Jessica Biel and rocking a tiny Memphis Grizzlies. "The Timberlakes are ready!!! GO GRIZZ! #GritNGrind #Playoffs #BabyGrizzROAR," Justin captioned the pic.

Take a look at the photo!

What a cutie!

While Silas steals the spotlight, it's hard not to notice that his mom Jessica looks pretty terrific, too. If she's sleep deprived, it's definitely not showing.

One week into parenthood, it sounds like things are going very well for the new family-of-three: "Jessica sees herself as a mom of boys, so it worked out perfectly," says a source close to the pair, who adds, "Justin is so excited, he doesn't know what to do with himself!"

Justin and Jessica join a growing group of celebrity parents who have decided to share the first photos of their babies themselves rather than hold out for the exclusive tabloid cover debut.

As adorable as the glossy photo shoots always are, I much prefer this type of candid family photo.

Congratulations again to Justin and Jessica on their cute new arrival!

Pregnancy and pubic hair? Scott Disick demands Kourtney trim

by

As cameras rolled for an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Scott Disick flat-out told longtime partner Kourtney Kardashian he finds her untrimmed pubic hair to be "a little offensive."

The clip, which aired just recently but was filmed while the reality star was still pregnant with their third child and prepping for a nude photo shoot, is circulating today as talk of pregnancy and pubes makes the blog rounds. Take a look:

"So, you're upset that I don't want to shave for the photoshoot," the reality star says to Scott as they broach the subject. She went on to explain, "First of all, it's lucky enough that I can shave my legs. There's a huge stomach here in the way so you're asking a lot to shave down there. I'm down. I just need some assistance."

"Her bush is hanging out like it's the '80s and I'm not going to stand for that," Scott says in a separately filmed clip after offering to help out. "If I have to get my hands dirty I will."

"When her stomach is hanging over things, I don't think she gets how unkept her lawn can get," he later said. "I think she forgets hair still grows downstairs."

Kourtney Kardashian Scott Disick

Kourtney Kardashian isn't the first celebrity mom to make talk of pubic hair and pregnancy public. You may recall that back in 2009 Tori Spelling got into the details of the state of her nether regions by writing in Mommywood, "I wasn’t prepared for losing sight of my lower region. I’d say, ‘Dean, how’s it looking down there? Do I need to shave?’ But of course I couldn’t shave. So Dean had to shave me. He’d hold up a mirror and say ‘How’d I do?’ Or he’d take a picture with his Blackberry to show me."

Still, today's debate seems to be less about how to go about shaving while pregnant and more about who gets to choose whether a woman does or doesn't.

Many seem upset by Scott's comments on the subject and I tend to agree. The whole clip seems ridiculous and staged in my view, but hearing Kourtney say that she didn't want to shave really ought to have been the end of it. If she'd wanted to and he offered to help her out that would be one thing, but the comments and acting as though he's in charge of her privates were out of line.

What's your typical pubic hair style? Does it change during pregnancy?

Find out how 13 celebrity moms stood up to "fat shaming"

by

Carolyn Robertson

Last week singer Kelly Clarkson once again found herself the target of post-baby body bullying, this time at the hands of radio host Mike Gallagher and FOX News correspondent Chris Wallace.

With no provocation whatsoever, these two grown men took it upon themselves to publicly poke fun at the singer, apparently just for their own amusement.

During a random conversation about pizza, Mike suddenly asked, "Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know, the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow did she blow up!"

"Really? Do we want to talk about some of your friends?" Chris responded, later joking, "She could lay off the deep dish pizza for a little while."

The pair eventually offered up their apologies to the Grammy-winning singer, but only after their offensive comments sparked widespread public criticism.

Kelly Clarkson motherhood

Sadly, this isn't the first time that Kelly, who welcomed daughter River last year, has had to deal with this type of criticism. You may remember that just last month UK TV presenter Kelly Hopkins took to Twitter to write, "Look chubsters, Kelly Clarkson had a baby a year ago. That is no longer baby weight. That is carrot cake weight. Get over yourselves."

Of course, Kelly isn't the first celebrity who has had to deal with mean-spirited criticism of the way she looks. She just happens to be the most recent example.

People in the public eye no doubt have to develop a thick skin over time, but still it must be hard not to feel the sting of that sort of cruelty. The temptation must be to lock your doors and hide away.

To their credit, though, Kelly and other famous moms who have found themselves in her shoes haven't cowered in the face of these types of attacks. Instead, they've stood up to their critics in the best way possible.

Take a look at some of our favorite responses to this sad "fat-shaming" trend:

Well said, ladies.

It's outrageous that these famous mamas came under fire in the first place. Over what? A dress size? The fact that they carried and birthed children and didn't jump right back into their size 2 skinny jeans?

Kudos to them, though, for not sinking to the level of their bullies, for offering no apologies and for reminding us all that there are so many things that matter so much more than a number on a scale.

What do you think about these moms' responses?

Which celebrity just named new baby "Rocket Zot?"

by

Carolyn Robertson

posted in Celebrities

Here's a new contender for the Hollywood baby name hall of fame.

Avatar star Sam Worthington and his girlfriend, model Lara Bingle, welcomed their first child last month. Though the pair have so far kept quiet on their new son's name, sources are now revealing that it's Rocket Zot.

While there's no explanation for the high-flying first name, Zot seems to be a nod to Sam's father, who has the same middle name.

Rocket may seem like a pretty odd baby name pick, but by celebrity standards it's not all that extraordinary. "Happy" singer Pharrell and Blink 182 frontman Tom Delogne both named their baby boys Rocket, too.

Little Rocket Zot is actually one of a few interesting baby names that were revealed this week: Actress Milla Jovovich and her husband WS Anderson named their second daughter Dashiel Edan, model mom Coco Rocha welcomed a baby girl named Ioni James, and TV host Terri Seymour revealed her new daughter's name is Coco.

Still with me?

Yes, in a world full of uncertainty, it seems there is still one thing we can all rely on: Famous people picking unusual baby names. They never let us down.

We love Olivia Wilde's post-baby body confession

by

Carolyn Robertson

posted in Celebrities

Olivia Wilde has three words for everyone obsessing over her post-baby body "bounce-back:" Pass the pizza.

The actress and mom-of-one graces the cover of the April issue of SHAPE magazine and while she clearly looks pretty fabulous - and pretty slim - she's quick to point out that it's in part an illusion.

"I am not in perfect shape," writes Olivia, who welcomed son Otis with Jason Sudeikis last April. "In fact, I'm softer than I've ever been, including that unfortunate semester in high school when I simultaneously discovered Krispy Kreme and pot. The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles, and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced. The truth is, I'm a mother, and I look like one."

This hit of honesty is refreshing, particularly in Hollywood, where new moms are expected to be - and often are - back in their bikinis weeks after giving birth. To those of us who looked in the mirror post-childbirth to find a jiggly tummy and road map of stretch marks, this bounce-back seems almost impossible.

Olivia thinks that it is impossible, at least in her little corner of Hollywood. While she loved being pregnant - "I felt unapologetically curvy, sexy, and intensely feminine," she admits - the 31-year-old Drinking Buddies star insists she, too, was surprised by the state of her body after her baby had arrived.

"After giving birth, I joined the ranks of millions of new mothers when I moaned, ‘Why do I still look pregnant? Is there another one stuck in there?'" she recalls, adding, "That gorgeous bump you proudly paraded around town for some 40 weeks has only retreated slightly after the birth. Now it's a lot like a partially deflated pool toy."

These Hollywood moms get real about the baby weight...

While Olivia did eventually return to the gym - dance workouts are her new fitness fave - she says she's been in no rush to return to her pre-baby shape. These days she has better things to do.

"If I wasn't at work, I just wanted to stay home and party with my little man—and by 'party' I mean, of course, endless rounds of the 'Itsy Bitsy Spider.' Also, I like beer. And pizza. And these two ingredients are not found in the purely fictional book I like to call How to Look Like You Never Made a Human: A Guide to Socially Acceptable Motherhood."

Photo editing and good lighting aside, I'm fairly sure Olivia's body is not quite as "soft" as my own, and I'm almost five years on from my last baby. Still, I love that she's made a point of publicly stating that a rock hard bikini body isn't her reality - and more importantly, that she's absolutely fine with that.

We moms don't all look the same after having children, but most of us are physically affected by it in some way. Maybe you lost the weight but have stretch marks, or your breasts are different, or your tummy sags. Maybe you're still hanging onto to those 5, 10, 20 extra pounds. Or maybe you look and feel just about the same but you can't jump on a trampoline without peeing your pants (yes, that happens... or so I hear).

The point is, childbirth leaves its mark on just about all of us. We shouldn't be expected, and we shouldn't expect ourselves, to meet some unrealistic and utterly subjective definition of perfection.

Olivia Wilde puts it very well: "I believe in a world where mothers are not expected to shed any physical evidence of their child-bearing experience."

Me too, Olivia.
